Guess who's back?

It looks like being a big night on Wednesday with Francesco Totti making his comeback to competitive action in the first leg of the Coppa Italia final against Inter. This is great news for Roma but even better for Italy. If he comes through unscathed, the Azzurri have just got a big player back for Germany.

No matter what your allegiance, you have got to wish him well and hope that he keeps clear of Materazzi! I believe that he and Pirlo together give Italy one of the most creative and defence-splitting midfields in the world. The Milan man has been on a slump of late but teaming up with Totti could be just the tonic he needs.

In the UK, it seems, they always say that Totti lets us down on the big occasions but I would still rather have him with us than against us. There are not that many matchwinners in the world and he is one. If he can finally keep his head, get among the goals and supply the killer passes for Toni, Gilardino and whoever then it could be one hell of a summer.

So, although I am no Interista nor Romanista, I will be watching this year's Coppa Italia final with more interest than usual. Forza Francesco!

Totti on the bench, which is fine by me, I really don;t want him to re-injure himself by coming back too quickly. But after the draw we'll need him for the ritorno next thursday, I reckon. *crosses fingers*

did you watch the game? have not found it wasy to find places to watch italian football in this benighted country...

I have satellite at home so it is pretty straightforward to see matches. Roma looked good but losing the early goal really knocked their confidence. Then they fought back and scored a lovely goal (great backheel flick from De Rossi to set up the strike).

As always for the Giallorossi the trouble wasn't creating chances, it was taking them. If they had a striker of any repute they would be in Champs League already no doubt.

Oh, and if you're up in Scotland any time you are always welcome to come and watch a game!

ah. satellite. maybe one day I will find some kind of employment sufficiently lucrative to fund such an extravagance...

Another great result for our Viola boys today and well done to Toni on hitting the 30 goal mark.

However what happens next Sunday if we draw and Roma win and we end up level on points? I know the head to head is two 1-1 draws so would we lose out thanks to our inferior goal difference? I seem to remember reading somewhere that there would be no play-offs to decide places due to the World Cup being so close.

Martino, the Viola need to win on Sunday to be sure of the Champs League since it would go down to goal difference which is much superior for Roma.

However, Milan still have an outside shot at the title while Chievo have only pride left to play for I think so - in essence - as long as we do better than the Giallorossi it will be Champions League next year.

Toni's second was a beauty by the way...

Watched the Juve v Palermo game on Bravo. Not surprisingly Palermo had at least one decent appeal for a penalty ignored.

However as you said Milan still have an outside chance of the title so they should beat Roma.

argh was really hoping Milan would lose or draw yesterday so they had no more hopes of the title. and could thus turn out some kind of reserve side. damnit.

and I noticed your boys did their best to reduce your inferior goal difference yesterday.

It looks like the points you let slip against Chievo might be the decider although I think not too many teams lie down nowadays as they know all eyes are on them - witness Parma and Palermo on Sunday. Just the same, I'd rather be playing Chievo already qualified for UEFA than Milan still with an outside chance of the title.
