Cuore Viola

It was one of the strangest games I have seen in my long years tracking Fiorentina but, in the end, the boys from Florence came away with three points. Prandelli's men must have had about 30 shots at goal but still found themselves 1-0 down thanks to the deadly Lucarelli of Livorno.

It looked like being one of those games as Adrian Mutu in particular saw his goal attempts thwarted or sail wide. Eventually it was that man Toni who got the Purples back on terms and good old Martin Jorgensen grabbed the win. It was all the more vital looking at the league table as it permitted the Florentine side to climb a couple of places in the table.

Elsewhere, a word of reproach for Gennaro Delvecchio of Samp. Idiot. He robbed us all of a good game as the Doria team and support looked up for the challenge against Inter until he stuck the head on Materazzi (it's becoming a theme!). Even so they put up a good fight but Mancini's men were just too powerful.

Finally, a word on the hilarious press conference Carlo Ancelotti held to defend His Royal Pieness, Ronaldo. He is not fat, apparently that is a myth. "He is an imposing figure, he is a robust player but he is not fat," insisted Carlo on a subject close to his heart. So, remember that the next time somebody calls you tubby after your eighth portion of pasta. "I am not greedy, I am just an imposing and robust eater..."

"His Royal Pieness". Nice one :oD That seems to be a very strange signing - to me. It's at the wrong end of the pitch for a start. I can only assume they're going after the shirt revenues. As for Delvecchio, well, I have to ask the question. What is it about Materazzi that sends players into such a blind rage ? Aparently, he wasn't much liked in the Everton dressing room. Although the fans did like his "assertiveness" (Big Dunc's influence I think). He must be the master wind up merchant.

So, how many Serie A games can you watch in a weekend, if you subscribe to everything under the sun, and pledge all of your future earnings to various satellite services? I'm deeply jealous you got to see the Fiorentina game (and not just because I like to look at Mutu) -- that one wasn't offered here.

Materazzi does seem to be able to bring the worst out of everyone. Along with Ibrahimovic he has to be in the top five faces you would like to slap in Serie A.

If you have got more money than sense (I have none of the latter and little of the former) you can watch games morning, noon and night at the weekend. The only qualification on that are the competing demands of wife, children and friends.

The Fiorentina game was live on betfair.com - for nothing! They generally show a Serie A game each Sunday afternoon - all you need is a betfair account, which costs I think a fiver to set up. No need to gamble once you're set up!

I am surprised at you knowing details of a gambling site...

What are the odds on Serie C1A this season? After the weekend it looks like it could be the most exciting division in Italy.

Ginkers, I've got the same amounts of money and sense that you do -- clearly I need to start planning a move.

Venezian, can you see games on Betfair from anywhere, or is a UK-only thing?

Martha - I think it is a UK only thing, but just go to www.betfair.com to check.

Ginkers - you can read my thoughts on C1/A on my blog as usual! Needless to say it is all far too close for my liking!

Despite you spending years trying to convince me otherwise I always look on the bright side when it comes to the Viola.

So......

only 8 points away from a Champions League place!

I like your style, Martino. I admit I have sneaked a look up the table from time to time but it's not so much the points gap that puts me off as the number of teams we have to overtake.

I honestly reckon we would be worth a Champs League spot more than probably Palermo (who have tailed off) and Lazio (who I think are workmanlike but quite deadly on the break). But when you have been down to C2 and all that you tend to get a bit nervous even thinking such things. So let's just concentrate on doing Parma this weekend.
