Zinedine Zidane gives a headbutt, three-match ban. Marco Materazzi, receives a headbutt, two-match ban. This is how justice works at FIFA. I honestly think if they could come up with a way to strip Italy of the World Cup they would. The whole organisation needs to be looked at.
What message does this send out to players? Dish out a few insults or clobber an opponent, it's all the same. If it's going to start a grass roots weeding out of all players who verbally provoke opponents then fair enough. But I reckon your average game would finish about three against three.
It smacks more of something they felt they had to do to justify giving Zidane the Golden Ball thing. Anyway, I'm off to Italy for a few days to fume. Catch up with you all soon!

We've already e-mailed each other about this but in effect Materazzi is being punished more than Zidane.

Zidane has played the 'humble heroic champion' crap and Materazzi who has always been antipatico has been the victim. Fifa have behaved with startling gullibility and reckless irresponsibility. Have they not thought about the kind of precedent they're setting?

Delighted to see the Viola back although 19 points will be a tough handicap - really means a season fighting for survival. Apparently they intend to fight it further, although it might be time to shut up and get on with things...
By the way, I was over in Barga in Tuscany where my family hails from. It was absolutely fantastic as always!
I must admit I had a bit of a mixed feeling about it. The whole positive vibe of battling against the odds to get promotion has now been replaced by a season that will be spent battling relegation.
Still at least we should keep our best players.
