One degree of separation

My recent trip to Italy - to receive a little medal from my family's home town of Barga - was given a bit of added pleasure by the fact that I got my hands on the World Cup. Well, almost.

One of my fellow award recipients was none other than Enrico Castellacci, the Italian team doctor and probably the most famous set of baffi in football. I couldn't miss the chance to get my picture taken with a man who only a couple of weeks earlier held the Coppa del Mondo. Of course, he said meeting me was right up there with winning the tournament...

A little medal? Your modesty is commendable.

You should also point out for those that dont know that you are the one on the right.

The one without the famous baffi, that'll be then. So, what's this little medal...?

The town of Barga gives out medals to people who have 'brought honour' to the area and I have written a couple of books so I got the San Cristoforo d'Oro...

....which is the highest honour Barga bestows on anyone.

Congrats again pal and enjoy the Chianti I brought down.

And again cheers for another fantastic birthday Giovedi. Hope to see you soon.

Il San Cristoforo d'Oro! Bravo, bravo e congratulazioni!

PS: Hope you gave those baffi a bit of a tweak. I cannot resist playing with facial hair...

Barga is the place that's strapieno di scozzesi, yes? I seem to recall hearing of it when I was in Lucca.

and would I be right to assume that you are not the Professor of early eastern Christianity at the università degli studi di napoli but his namesake?

Although I am something of a theology expert, I am not he. I am the half-baked Italian football expert from Calcio Italia magazine and occasional author of local history books!

Barga is indeed the most Scottish town in Italy but well worth a visit nonetheless...
